Homework 2/24

Instagram is an extremely popular website used by millions of people daily.  This site is used for photo sharing across the globe, giving people around the world immediate access to pictures posted from anywhere.  Instagram is available every minute of the day, and since users are located globally, pictures are being posted constantly.
Even though the site consists basically only of pictures, the speed is quite good.  Sometimes it can take a while for pictures to load, but for the most part as long as one has a decent Internet connection the loading speed for the pictures is instantaneous.
The visual logic of Instagram is very good. It is obvious at first glance what the site contains.  Since it is a photo sharing website, photos are the point of the website, and it keeps it simple enough with keeping them in a clear line format.
It is a fairly simple site, displaying photos with captions and hyper-linked hashtags to find more pictures.  It is easy to navigate and find whatever one would need within the site.  The best layering that the site does is in the hashtags.  Users use common hashtag their photos for other people to find and “like”.

The news aspect of Instagram is good because the site is constantly updated with new information through the pictures that are being posted.  This can be found through “following” users who present news, or through sponsored users who pop up in one’s news feed.  Overall, Instagram does very well based on the demands of the audience.

Ex. 6.3

Twenty-five people were injured  at 6 p.m. Thursday in a 12 car pile-up caused by an  illegal left turn by a semi truck holding 300 chickens.
The accident occurred on the corner of McFarland and 15th, and involved a large pile-up of cars, according to Sergeant John Jones.  Among the injured were chicken truck driver Jeff Johnson as well as a retired local kindergarten teacher, Sarah Bernell. Both were transported immediately to the hospital.  All other injuries reported were simply bruises, and none of the other 23 injured were admitted.
Hospital official Clarence Dimotta reports that both of the injured are in good condition, the driver sustained minor injuries including bruises and a possible broken ankle, however the teacher was more seriously injured with a minor concussion.
The greater number of injuries in this accident, however, were those of the chickens.  As many as 300 chickens were riding in the truck when it made an illegal sharp left turn and ended up on its side.  At least 30 chickens have been reported to be dead as well as up to 40 chickens on the loose.
Sgt. Jones stresses that the animals are the property of the chicken company, Alabama Poultry, Inc., and if found they should be returned.  Carlton Fitzsimmons, chicken company president, reports that the missing and dead chickens are worth over $700, as each chicken was insured for $10.  The company’s chickens supply eggs to IGA stores across the South, with the company farm holding about 20,000 chickens.

Basketball coaching legend Jerry Tarkanian dies at 84.  Visionary coach Jerry Tarkanian transformed the UNLV team during his 31 seasons as a Division 1 coach.  Playing the game and the players field in a completely radical difference from other coaching equals, Tarkanian took the Rebels to a place they never could have been at without his coaching.  In the past few years, after failing health, Tarkanian was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame, and will now be remembered there after his passing.

Hannah Davis defends Sports Illustrated cover after 'Today' sensors call it 'pornographic'.  The 2015 Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition featuring Hannah Davis, girlfriend of Derek Jeter, drew negative attention.  Davis is pictured pulling down the front of her bikini bottom in what many are calling to be a "pornographic pose".  The National Center on Sexual Exploitation urges retailers to only partially expose the cover, as to not normalize the overly exposed girl.
