Evan Apon spent his Christmas break
in Atlanta, Georgia hanging out with his family. He is one of nine children and has four
brothers and four sisters. While he was
on break he also went to Passion Conference.
This was a three-day conference in Atlanta that had different speakers
every day. Some of the speakers
included: Francis Chan, John Piper, and Chris Tomlin.
Francis
Chan was Evan’s favorite speaker, because he seemed to be the most genuine of
the speakers. There were about 25,000
people at the conference, and some of the speakers seemed to be bothered by the
crowd so their talks came off more like performances than heart felt
wisdom. Chan, however, did not seem to
be phased by the crowd and he gave a powerful talk about prayer.
Evan was
really moved by Chan’s thoughts on prayer.
The main point of Chan’s speech was the dilution of the importance of
prayer in modern day society. He
challenged the crowd with showing them the difference of how prayer was seen in
the Old Testament versus modern day. In
the Old Testament it was considered a high honor for the priests to go before
the Holy God and intercede on behalf of the people but now that Jesus has come
to intercede for all mankind, people overlook the honor that it is to go
directly to God, and often times pastors have to beg the members of their youth
groups to pray. This conference made for
a great break.
